SUMMARY:Treating Depression and Addiction Training
DESCRIPTION:Treating Depression and Substance Use Disorders \n  \nThe integration of treatment for substance abuse disorders and for depression is the focus of this workshop. Topics will include a general overview of depressive symptoms and medical interventions for the treatment of depression. While\, participants will learn an integrated CBT model and techniques for treating depression and substance use disorders\, the emphasis of the workshop will be on using CBT to treat depression.  Role plays and small group activities will give participants an opportunity to both apply the model and practice the techniques. In addition\, participants will watch video demonstrations of how CBT interventions are used to develop anti-suicide plans\, to address Anhedonia and to increase client self-esteem. \n  \nCourse Objectives \n  \nParticipants will \n\nBecome aware of the links between substance use\, depression and trauma\nLearn the principles of integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders\nBecome familiar with current theories designed to explain the connection between mental health and substance use disorders\nBe able to identify the types of depressive disorders\n\n\nIncrease their knowledge of depressive symptoms and medical interventions for the treatment of depression\nBe introduced to an integrated CBT model of treatment for substance use disorders and depression\nBe able to identify the schemas thought to underlie depression\nLearn how to utilize CBT case conceptualization to guide treatment planning for clients with depression and a substance use disorder\nBe able to develop a CBT case formulation from case study of a client with depression and a substance use disorder\nBe able to identify the components of a suicide prevention plan\nLearn and practice CBT techniques to address substance use and depression in role plays\nView video demonstrations of CBT interventions for anhedonia and to increase client self-esteem\n\n

SUMMARY:Mind Over Monsters Training
DESCRIPTION:It is amazing how many monsters get built in our brains when we’re stressed. \nStress is the perception that we cannot cope with life’s challenges and demands. As we are faced with the event\, our fear begins to exaggerate the demand and monsters are created in our minds. \nThe tools used to build the monsters include worry\, fear and rumination. Somehow\, in the end what we actually experience is almost never as bad as what we built in our heads. \nGoal: \nThe goal of this workshop is to enable participants identify and recognize the symptoms of stress and ultimately learn techniques for coping. \nObjectives: \n\nParticipants will be able to identify sources of stress\n\n  \n\nParticipants will be able to recognize signs and symptoms of stress\n\n  \n\nParticipants will become familiar with and explore techniques for coping with stress\n\n  \n\nParticipants will be able to distinguish between stress and anxiety\n\n  \n\nParticipants will be able to recognize how stressful life events may trigger anxiety\n\n  \n\nParticipants will discover the power of laughter in alleviating stress\n\n
