This course describes the impact of a drugs’ mechanisms of action upon the body. The first part of the course focuses upon how drugs impact neurons and neurotransmitters, how drugs are delivered, move through the body and brain, how they are eliminated and how these mechanisms impact the effect of drugs upon the body. The second half of the workshop will explore new psychedelic treatments for treatment resistant depression and traumatic brain injuries and why they may be more effective than current pharmaceutical treatments. In addition, the workshop will identify new synthetic opioids and their risks for drug overdose, methamphetamine’s impact on the dopamine receptor system and methamphetamine induced psychosis.
